FROM STABLE AND COURSE.

(By “Binocular.”! G. Humphries, who sustained a broken wrist recently, hopes to be back in the saddle at Trentham. The Shambles—Lovc-in-the-Mist gelding, who claims engagements at the \\ 7 ellirigton meeting, may race as Landru. Blue Boy, who was galloped on at Awapuni on the final day, injuring his off hock, may be absent from racing for some time. Riri was not taken back to Riccarton by his trainer, having boen leased to Mr J. Rothwell, the owner of Earthquake, and he will bo raced on tho West Coast. Pango has been entered for the AA’anganui Cup on (he opening day of the River City meeting, but figures in the Hack Plate on the second day. Boudoir, Bold Jim and Palm also figure in the latter contest. It would thus appear that Palm is to he tried over a distance.

Nightly has given cause for more worry during the last few clays, and it would appear as if difficulty will be experienced in getting him ready for early autumn racing. It is feared that bis wind is affected. The northerner, Silver Wattle, who has so far failed to live up to expectations, may be given a trial over the sticks at the Afatamata meeting. High Tea, the half-brother to that good Australian performer, .Mystic Peak, has been shaping well in his recent races and an he is likely to improve further he should not lie long in picking up a stake. Having her first race for some time, Gay Athlonc is reported to have displayed plenty of speed in the Tapu Handicap at Parawai, but she weakened at the end of five furlongs and finished well back. She should be benefited by the raco. There was solid support for Royal Artist in the Goldfields Cup at the Thames fixture, and when ho joined First Lap in the lead half a mile from home ho was being proclaimed as tiro winner. However, he failed to run on and was beaten into fourth place. Aevanna, who contested the maiden event at Thames on Thursday is not to be persevered with and is to be returned to her owner at Gisborne. By Acre—Louissana, she showed fairly good promise in training, but her form under silk has been disappointing. Ornamental has been retired io the stud following her disappointing form at tho Kllerslie carnival, and is being mated with Vaals. Bred in Australia in 1929 Ornamental is by Ornamentation from Vocal .Princess, by Comedy King from A’ippinggalc, bv William the Third.

Application, a two-year-old gelding by Appellant, from Legation, trained by E. Pope at Takariini, bad his first outing at Thames on Thursday in the Parawai Stakes. He jumped out well for a beginner and was always prominent, being second at the home turn, where he ran wide, and eventually finished fourth. He is a neatlooking youngster, and one that looks certain to improve with a little experience. Star Artist is reported to have trained on satisfactorily since the Auckland meeting and will fulfil her engagements at the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting. She showed a glimpse of her true form when she dead-heated with Rereatu for third place in the Newmarket Handicap on the third day at Ellerslie and if she repeats that effort at Trentham she will be troublesome.

The only juvenile entered for the _ Wellington meeting who has not previously raced is Herilago, a highly-bred brown colt, by Posterity (sire of Legatee) from Eulogy’s fino stud daughter, Homage, darn also of Episode, Honour, and Courtesy. For this youngster Air AV. 11. Gaisford gave 525 guineas at the last January sales, and he has boen allowing him plenty of time in which to develop. Massir, who was sent out favourite in the Tapu Handicap at Thames, failed to begin smartly, and this consequently affected his cfiance. Ho displayed a lot of speed in the middle stages of the race, being in second place when the field straightened up for tho run homo. However, his early effort told on him, and he was in third place when the post was reached. This three-yenr-old is a solid-look-ing hack, from whom better results can be expected. R. Marsh is not now going to India to fulfil a prospective twelve-months’ riefing engagement (reports tho Hawke’s Bav Tribune). Some few weeks back ho was cabled an offer, but asked for a greater retainer, which wa3 granted. However, the season, or tho most profitable part of it, being very nearly over, Marsh has decided not to go just now, but is again in communication with his would-be employer, asking that the offer bo renewed at tho beginning of next season (October), when he will accept.
