FRIENDLY SOCIETIES
COURT MANATVATU A.0.F., No. 5655. The first meeting of the above Court for the year was held in the Lodge room on Monday, 14th. inst., Bro. J. Smith, C.R., presiding over a large attendance of members and visitors from Courts Hinemoa (ladies), Auckland, Wanganui, Woodville, Pahiatua, and other districts. Apologies were received from Bros. Fletcher (treasurer), Pickering, and Skinner for their absence from the meeting. The C.R. welcomed all visiting members and expressed a wish that their visit to the city would be a very enjoyable one. The following resolutions was carried by acclamation : That the work of the retiring officers for past services be placed on record; that P.C.R. Bro. Mudgway’s certificate and emblem be presented to him in Wellington at the next district meeting, this brother having taken up his residence in t?mt city; that the delegate be given a free hand to vote for the district office of J.B.
The Woodwards reported several members on the sick funds of the Court. A new member was initiated into the Order, and was accorded the “Foresters’ Eire.” Tile following officers were then installed for the half year :—C.R., Bro. Freeman; S.C.R. Bro. Jones; treasurer, Bro. Fletcher; secretarv, Bro. C. Edwards; S.W., Bro. G. H. Edwards; J.W., Bro. 11. Robinson; 5.8., Bro. Burgess; J. 8., Bro. Egan; minute secretary Bro. E. Holgerson; 1.P.C.R., Bro. Smith. The business being concluded the members and visitors were entertained to a dainty supper, prepared for them in the adjoining room where the C.R., Bro. Freeman, presided and the following toasts were proposed : “The King, proposed by C.R. Bro. Freeman; “Wellington District,” by Bro. J. Follis and responded to by Bro. C. Edwards; “Newly Installed Officers,” by P.C.R. Bro. P. Burns, responded to by the officers; “Retiring Officers,” proposed by P.C.R. Bro. Lord, responded to by Bro. Giles and 1.P.C.R., Bro. Smith; “The Visitors,” proposed by Bro. Hollis. responded to by Bros. Milne ("Wellington), C.R, Sister of Court Hinemoa, F. G. Moore, P.C.R., Court Pahiatua. and a P.C.R. from a Court at Auckland; “The Press.” by Bro. Holgerson, responded to by Bro. Shaw; “The Ladies,” proposed by Bro. P.C.R. Moore, responded to by sisters from Court Hinemoa.
During the evening community singing was indulged in, Bros. Bosanoski and Robinson presiding at the piano.
