FUTURE OF FRANCE
PREMIER’S HOPEFUL OUTLOOK
PROVISION OF WORK. REFORM OF MAGISTRACY. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received January 14, 8.5 a.m. PARIS, Jan. 13.
“Peace dawned with the New Year,” were the first words of the Premier (M. Flandin) in a speech at the banquet of the Alliance Republicaine Democratique. He added that the Rome agreements and the London conversations’ only aim was the consolidation of peace.
The Premier outlined the Government’s plans to fight unemployment and restore business, including the adapting of production to consumption, the reduction of the rate of interest in order to restore credit, which would satisfy the Treasurer’s needs without depreciating the market price of the existing loans, and increasing longterm interest. Moreover this did not necessitate inflation.
He also promised a reform of the Magistracy, whereby Judges would be freed of political influence. He forecast the creation of a post of inspectorgeneral, who would supervise the appointments and promotions. M. Flandin added: “I shan’t weaken in my determination for reform. I do not -regard myself ns a member of a club of rotatory Premiers.”
