LAMBS VERY FIRM

GOOD TONE IN BEEF MARKET. Lamb market: Very firm with better prices. Prospects for tho season appear good. Mutton market: Wethers firm with stocks fairly short. Ewes meeting with good trade. Beef market: Good consumption with prices improved. New Zealand porker pigs: Trade good with lightweights higher. Now Zealand baconer pigs: Nominal. The above report was received on Saturday by the New Zealand Meat Board from its London office, which advises that the following are the approximate) average prices reali jed for the week ended January

11, based on actual transactions of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of meat mentioned, and are for representative parcels of the goods offering during the week, being for business done on tho basis of delivered to Smithfield market and/or ex London stores. Prices for the two previous weeks are also shown: —

The Bank of New Zealand's produce de- j partment has received the following advice from its London office as at the close of business last week :—The market for wethers is firm. There is a better demand for ewes. The market for lambs is steady, and no material change is expected yet. Smaller supplies of beef have caused prices to harden. The market is firm all round, states cabled advico received by Levin and Coy., Ltd., from their London agents, dated January 11. Compared with last week’s quotations, lamb is unchanged, with the exception of second quality, which is id per lb higher; wethers, 5611) to 641 b, id per lb lower; 641 bto 721 b, |d per 1 blower. Prime ox beef 3d per lb higher. Others unchanged. Smithfield “delivered” prices are quoted as follow : North Island Down lambs 281 bto 361 b, 8d; 361 bto 421 b, 81d.
