DOUBLE DUTCH.
HOLLAND BANS WORD. The word “Dutch” lias been officially banned in Holland and replaced by “Netherlands.” A circular issued by the Ministry of Education states: — “The Government has decreed that for official documents and publications the English term, Netherlands Indies' shall be used to describe our possessions in the Far East, as this is more in keeping with the British custom than is our method of calling our Asiatic acliipelago ‘lndia.’ “It is also deemed advisable to avoid the adjective ‘Dutch’ in official documents which are translated into English, because confusion arises between ‘Dutch’ and ‘Deutscli’ (German).”
