BUILDING RETURNS.
ACTIVITIES IN THE CITY. Although there was an entire absence of building permits issued by the City Council during last month in so far as business premises are concerned, the position is merely a repetition of November, 1933, when no building construction in respect to business premises was attempted. Last year there were eight permits for the construction of residences issued in November, the aggregate expenditure involved to the property owners being £6058. During the past month there were nine permits issued for the same purpose, the aggregate being £6129, so the position in that respect has been more than maintained. A similar position is disclosed where alterations to existing residences and the erection of motor sheds, etc., are concerned, for whereas last year 12 permits were issued in November covering an outlay of £1044, there were 13 permits issued last month for a total of £ll2O. Of the latter amount £SOO is for the reconstruction of existing flats in the business area.
