Obituary.—Sir Robert Perks, aged 85 years. . . Sir Robert Perks had a distinguished career as ail engineer and financier and. was concerned with the construction of some world famous works, including the Manchester Ship Canal, the Forth Bridge, the Trans-Andine railway, the harbour at Alexandria, quays and harbour works at Rio De Janiero, and the port extension works at Buenos Aires. He was a pioneer in railway developments. His firm, Walker and Company, built the inner circle railway in London and lie was the chairman of the Metropolitan District Railway during its conversion from steam to electricity over 30 years ago. He was for many years a Liberal member of Parliament and throughout his life as a Methodist took a prominent part in religious work.
