ENGLISH TRAINERS FINED. LONDON, Nov. 50. Following a hurdle race at Newbury in which the stewards called for an explanation of the alleged circumstances of the running of three horses, their trainers, Frank Hartigan, Ivor Anthony and Owen Anthony, were each fined £SO. The jockeys, G. Wilson, D. Morgan and J. Harney, were suspeded for the remainder of the meeting and two were fined £5 each. Wilson won' the Grand National this year. The trainers have appealed, and the matter has been referred to the National Hunt Committee. With the idea of avoiding rehandicaps for horses engaged at Feilding, the Woodvillo handicaps will not be declared until next Monday morning. The option to buy the three-year-old colt Synagogue for 2500 guineas was not taken up and he will remain with T. R. George, at Trentham. He will probably race at the meeting at Trentham on December 15, before going to Auckland. A report from Christchurch states that Custodian has thrown off his soreness and is now getting through easy exercise on the track. Riccarton reports state that nothing came through the racing at the New Zealand Cup meeting better than Vintage. Ho is engaged at Auckland, but is likely to be nominated also for Manawatu. A Lexington exchange says that in the
way of riding feats, Walter Miller, once America’s leading jockey, rode five winners out of a similar number of mounts on three occasions, which is a record for that country. Miller subsequently visited Australia, but was too heavy to have much opportunity there.
