HEAD-ON SMASH.
MOTOR CYCLISTS INJURED. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Nov. 29. Serious injuries were suffered by two motor-cyclists, George Walters and Ivan Walters, of Newmarket, when the machine they were riding was involved in a head-on collision with a motor-car on the Paeroa-Pokeno Road, about four miles from Pokeno, to-night. George Walters, who was driving the machine, received fractures of both legs and both arms, head injuries, concussion, and shock. Ivan Walters suffered internal and head injuries, concussion, and shock. The two men are not related, although they both live with George Walters’s parents. The rider of the machine is an experienced motor-cyclist, having taken part in the cinder track races in Auckland for two seasons. The driver of the car was Albert Claude Nicholson, a sliaremilker of Hauraki Plains. He had purchased the car, a used touring model, in Auckland during the day and was driving it home when the accident occurred. The motorcyclists were travelling toward Auckland on their return from Gisborne and the two vehicles came upon each other at the brow of a rise. Before either vehicle had time to swerve to avoid a smash they collided head-on. The riders of the motor-cycle received the force of the impact, but the fact that the pillion rider was carrying a pack probably saved him from more serious injury. The injured men were brought to the Auckland Hospital. The driver of the car, who suffered a gash to one hand, was taken to the Thames Hospital for attention. His condition is not serious.
