SUNDAY CONCERT.

The most varied and entertaining programme ever submitted for the approval of local audiences will be staged at the State

Theatre to-morrow (Sunday) evening by the Pipe Band Committee. By the courtesy of the Fuller-Hayward Theatres the Scottish Society has arranged for the first appearance in Palmerston North of Fred Webber, the famous Australian orchestral leader who has only recently arrived from the Tivoli theatres in Sydney and Melbourne to fulfill a number of engagements in New Zealand. Mr Webber, who is an exceptionally versatile artist, and made himself popular with Australian audiences as a vocalist and pianist, will also be heard on his famous trumpet and assisted by Mr J. Thompson will present piano ducts on two pianos. Mr Webber will be accompanied by his “Rhythm Rascals,” all of whom arc soloists and include A 1 Webber, drummer and vocalist, Skeot Wasley, trumpet player, Jim Buckley, saxophonist, clarinetist and vocalist, J. Thompson, piano, Franko Bourke, bass, and Maurice McKenzie, _ violin and saxophone, the last-named being a Palmerstonian and the only member of the orchestra selected from New Zealand. Messrs Fred Webber, Jim Buckley and A 1 Webber will be heard in vocal trios accompanied by the orchestra, which will also present a programme of special items suitable for the occasion. Miss Gracie ICerr,- New Zealand’s foremost elocutionist, will present a variety of items in a humorous vein;. Mr A. L. Elston, late of the London circuit, will present an entirely new entertainment to Palmorstonians. while the appearance of Mr Bay Trewern, the popular . Wellington tenor, will also delight the audience. Misses Lois and Nell Watson, elocutionists, Miss N. Sutherland, soprano, Miss L. Thomson, soprano, and Mr J. Thomson, tenor, will be heard in specially selected and pleasing items, while the appearance of Mr H. Bell, xylophone, Miss Wiggins and Mr Duckworth. piano duet, will also add to the popularity of the programme. The accompanist will be Mrs Barlow, and a further item will be a pianoforte duct by Misses Gwcneth Smith and Nola Buick, the latest “find” in the list of Palmerston North entertainers, who have a wonderful future before them. The box. plan is now open at J. Martin’s tobacconist, next to G. H. Bennett’s, Broadway.
