FEILDING SALE.

STORE CATTLE IN DEMAND

STATION BREEDS RISE.

Over 1000 head of all classes of station cattle were yarded in the store pens at the Feildng sale yesterday, and for male lines the sale was the best yet held this year. Buyers from the Wairarapa, Hawke’s Bay, Wanganui and Main Trunk districts were present, and it was noticeable that the Wairarapa purchasers took lines of cattle most suitable for the chilled beef trade. For female lines the sale was fair, although prices were hardly up to late rates. An appreciation in market prices took place in regard to both yearling steers and heifers, the top values beinc quite up to the main sales this year. Fat cattle comprised practically all dairy breeds, for which butchers did fair business at late rates, while the few head of run beef yarded also sold well.

Fat sheep showed little alteration in price and the small yarding of store sheep found buyers at satisfactory rates. Dairy cattle were slow of sale. Detailed quotations are as follow: Fat sheep.—Hoggets, 19s 9d, 20s 6d, 22 s 3d, 22s 9d, 23s to 24s 4d; b.f. 2-tlis, 21s 6d, 22s 6’d; wethers, 22s 3d ; ewes, 13s 6d, 13s Bd, 14s, 14s 6d, 14s 9d, 15s Id 17s to 17s 7d. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report:—A email yarding of sheep in all sections came forward and these met with a keen sale throughout. The fat sheep yarding comprised a few pens of well finished ewes and these showed an appreciable rise on last week’s sale, due no doubt to the short supply. Store sheep were penned in small numbers and a spirited sale resulted with values well up on late rates. The cattle yarding comprised some nice pens of station bred cattle in the store pens and in this section the bidding was animated throughout and a total clearance was effected at values in favour of the sellers. Fat cattle were again yarded in heavy numbers and here we report a fair sale with prices showing an easing tendency. Dairy cattle were sold at late rates.
