HOROWHENUA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Nov. 21.

A fire broke out in an outhouse at the children’s health camp at 3 o’clock this morning and charred the interior. The fire was extinguished by a garden hose.

Officers of the Italian warship to-day visited places of interest in Otaki. They were shown round the district bv Mr Field, M.P.

Mr J. B. Meachen yesterday underwent an operation at the Palmerston North Hospital. A number of children will be discharged from the health camp next week, having benefited considerably by the treatment received. Others are expected from Hawke’s Bay, Manawatu, Wellington, and Blenheim.

Among the successful exhibitors at yesterday’s flower show at Wellington was Mrs C. Jones, of Otaki, who secured a first prize in the intermediate section (amateurs) for a single bloom, first for pansies and two firsts and a second in the open class for cut flowers.

Mr McPherson,. who has been on the staff of the Otaki Post Office for some time, has been transferred to Levin. His place here has been fillod by Mr Cooksley, of Rangiotu. Miss Morrison, of New Plymouth, is the guest of Mrs W. J. Dickson, Otaki.
