STONEMASONS’ DISPUTE.
OBJECTION TO AWARD. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 22. A dispute between the federated stonemasons and employers was the subject of a Conciliation Council meeting held at Wellington to-day. The Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury and Otago employers maintained it was unfair that they should be cited for an award while other industrial districts, in particular Taranaki and Nelson, went free. It was stated by the employers, who held that such an award would militate against their business, that they were already suffering from considerable competition from those districts. They suggested that the question of an award be held over until the employees could bring in the whole of the Dominion. After retiring to discuss the question, the employees’ assessors decided to proceed in the hope of reaching an agreement and trying to persuade Taranaki to co-operate later on.
