BODY-LINE DECREE

STATEMENT BY M.C.C. EVIDENCE OF BOWLING ATTACKS A DEFINITION GIVEN. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received November 22, 11.15 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 21. The Cricket Board of Control has decided to grant the professionals who participated in the Australian matches an extra £lO a match, also a bonus of £lO a match. The Marylebone Committee has issued a statement in which it says it considers there is evidence of cases of the bowler directly attacking the batsman on various occasions last season. Consequently, in order to remove the misunderstanding as to what constitutes a direct attack and is, therefore, unfair, the committee has ruled that it consists of persistent, systematic bowling of fast, short-pitched balls at a batsman standing clear of the wicket. The committee is instructing umpires that any action to prevent this type of bowling will be strongly supported by the committee.
