TWICE A WEEK
JO JOHANNESBURG AND CALCUTTA. DUPLICATION BY AIRWAYS. 'ACCELERATION OF SERVICES. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received November 22, 5.55 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 21. In pursuance of the policy of increasing the frequency of services and the preference for speeding up machines, Imperial Airways have announced the duplication of services from London to Calcutta and Johannesburg, giving a twice-weekly service in each direction for passengers and mails to India and Africa, also four services weekly between Britain and Egypt. The duplicated service opens from London to Johannesburg oil January 1. The plans do not involve additional aircraft, but extra work will be demanded from the machines on the Empire routes, which now fly an average of only 2600 miles a week as compared with the London-Paris ’planes’ 1000 miles daily. The ground staffs will be increased. Extra engineers have already been despatched to the key points.
