“JUMP FOR HIS LIFE.”

INSPECTOR AT AVIIANGAREI. AVHANGAREI, Nov. 20. On the night of October G Traffic Inspector D. Shankland had to jump for his life when a driver whose machine he wished to stop went straight on. The driver was Ahctor Rowland Colinson. and he was charged before Mr G. N. Aiorris, S.AI.. with driving a car without lights and with driving in a manner which might have been dangerous to the public. The inspector said he signalled to tho driver with a torch, and when he slowed down stepped on to the road with his hand up. “At that moment the driver opened the throttle and came straight at me,” said the inspector. Colinson drove on quickly, a'though witness called on him to stop. He followed the defendant to Kamo and there caught up with him.

On the no light charge defendant was fined 10s and 12s costs, and on the dangerous driving charge £5 and costs 12s 6d.
