WORK AT TAKANINI. GAY BLONDE’S FAST MILE. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Nov. 22. Although cutting out a little, the middle of the grass track, which was in use at Takanim this morning, was in excellent order and some fast work was witnessed, Gay Blonde putting up the smartest effort over a mile that has ever been recorded there. Gay Blonde ran a mile in 1.38 4-5. Safari was to have accompanied her from the five furlong post, but broke away and actually only came home with her over the last half-mile. Gay Blonde ran the first two furlongs in 24sec., three in 36, four in 47 2-5, and five in 1.0 2-5. T. Green will probably ride her in the Alison Cup. Nun Nicer and Matorni covered six furlongs, the former getting a two lengths’ advantage at the start and being that distance in front at the finish, in 1.15 2-5. Both these hacks have been working well recently. Gay Slieik got Into his stride quicker than High Tea at the halfmile, hut after the latter got up to him at the end of a furlong Gay Sheik again went away and had a couple of lengths to spare at the finish. The time was 49 3-5. Ballymoney jumped away about four lengths in front of Lifeguard at the half-mile post and was a couple of lengths in front at the finish. The time was 49 2-5, Lifeguard’s time being 48 4-5. Both went nicely. Tray Bit was sore after returning from the track yesterday and is regarded as a doubtful starter.

NOTES FROMELLERSLIE. IMPRESSIVE WORK. MATA HARI’S GOOD PERFORMANCE. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Nov. 22. The weather and track conditions were excellent for the final gallops at Ellerslie in connection with the 'i’akapuna Jockey’s Club’s meeting this morning. The course proper, on which the poles were 30 feet out from the rails, was open and most of the fast work was done on this. Some first-class efforts were recorded, among them being those of Kiltowyn, King Musk, Kelly, Mata Hari, Baroscope, and Marching Song. On the course proper Thespis gave Wee Pat and Kilmuir about three lengths’ start over a round, the pair I beating him home in 2.18 4-5. Although beaten, Thespis was going easily at the finish. Karangapai ran right away from Hushing after six furlongs which occupied 1.19, the first three taking 38 1-osec. Kelly was a couple of lengths ahead of Midian after six furlongs run in 1.18, the first three taking 37 3-osec. Kelly is in first rate style. The Cup candidates, Gay Marigold and Gay Broney, ran a mile "in 1.45, the last half mile taking 53 2-ssec. Gay Marigold was doing the better at the finish.

The best effort of the morning over five furlongs was by Mata Hari, who beat Chief Emerald and Psychologist easily in 1.3 2-5. She ran the first two furlongs in 24 l-ssec, and was running on solidly at the end. King Mestor and King Musk were associated over six furlongs which occupied 1.17, the best of the morning over the distance. They ran the first three furlongs in 37 3-ssec., King Mestor being two lengths in front, which was reduced to a length at the post. King Musk was going the better at the finish.

After breakfast Kiltowyn, with a stable mate, Taiyang, to assist over the first three furlongs, ran the fastest mile that has been run on this track for some time when the distance the poles were out from the rails is taken into consideration. They ran the first tvro furlongs in 23 4-ssec and three in 37 l-ssec, Taiyang then dropping out. Kiltowyn continued alone, running the first half-mile in 49 3-ssec, five fur Jongs in 1.1 4-5, and the full distance in 1.42. He carried just on 9.0 and it was a first-class performance. Taiyang' displayed brilliant speed, being about a length and a half in front of Kiltowyn when he was eased up at the threefurlong post. Baroscope and Marching Song were on terms, with Princess Bede several lengths away, after completing seven furlongs in 1.30 3-5. The first threefurlongs were covered in 37 3-ssec, and Baroscope appeared to be doing the better of the pair. - Monanui, after running the first half-mile in 54sec., finished seven furlongs in 1.33, doing her work nicely at the finish. Miss Dazzle was in fx-ont of Ornamental after a round in 2.8 2-5, the last seven furlongs taking 1.34 1-5. She is in great order for her engagements. Flammarion was going very easily throughout six furlongs run in 1.21.
