WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.

YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. A featureless market yesterday saw very little movement in prices on the Wellington Stock Exchange. Business was quiet on a slack demand, and the turnover was small. Investors showed little interest in Government loans, and the numerous sellers showing were inclined to ease their quotations. The only recorded business was a deal in 4 per cent, stock, 1955, at £ll3 2s 6d. Local body and company debentures were quietly firm. There was a languid inquiry for bank shares, and financial and pastoral issues. New Zealand Guarantee Corporations were very firm at 5s 7d, but this did not attract sellers. Wellington Gas shares were vainly sought at 41s. Insurance shares were quiet but firm, Queensland moving up to 74»s 6d. New Zealand Refrigerating were wanted at par, following a sale of the 10s paid at 10s 2d late on Monday. AA 7 estport Coal were strong at 19s lOd, but sellers were absent. Breweries were quiet and unchanged. Miscellaneous trading and industrial issues were dull. British Tobacco eased to 41s, and Burns Philp to 565. Colonial Sugar were firm at £75. Prestige (New Zealand) preference were wanted at 20s 6d and Whitcomlfe and Tombs at 765. Mining shares were very dull, the only bright spot being an unanswered bid for AVaihi at 39s 6d. Matalti sold at 2s 6Jd, and Brian Born at 9Jd.
