SISTER’S TEA PARTY
CHILD INVITES DUKE. A nine-year-old child, whose Christian name is Liliianne wrote as follows to the Duke of Gloucester from an address in a Melbourne suburb, under date of November 1: “Dear Duke of Gloucester. —I am writing you this letter as it is my little sister’s fifth birthday on Friday, the 2nd of November, and I would be pleased if you could be present with us. I will not be disappointed if you cannot come, as I know you have many more important occasions to go to. It is not a big party, as she is only having her six little friends, and, of course, you. That’s all now, and I hope you can come. From your little friend Liliianne
Liliianne received the following reply; — “Dear Liliianne. —His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester is away from Melbourne to-day, so I am afraid he will not be able to come to your little sister’s tea party. Yours faithfully, (signed) Artheur R. W. Curtis, captain, private secretary to H.R.H. the Duke of Gloucester.
