CALF JUDGING

NO. 4 GROUP. Judging in the Boys’ and Girls’ Calf Club competitions was continued yesterday, when No. 4 group, comprising the Colyton, Awahuri and Te Arakura Schools was judged. The judge was accompanied by Mr W. E. Thomas, group supervisor, and Mr E. H. Lange, Feilding. COLYTON SCHOOL. At Colyton, only two animals were presented, Mr J. Crooke, chairman of the School Committee, acting as judge. The placings were as follow: Dairy type. —Brian Mai’s Beauty 1, Frank Weston’s Kitty 2. Caro and Attention.-—Brian Mai 1, Frank Weston 2. TE ARAKURA. Mr J. O’Donnell, Buiinythorpe, act. ed as judge at this school, his awards being as under : Dairy type.—Harold Stewart’s Jill 1, Earl Fuller’s Buttercup 2, Olive Thomas’s Rosalind 3, Joan Burnham’s Betty 4, Maisie Johnston’s Nancy 5, Audrey Firth’s Nancy 6. Care and attention.—Olive Thomas 1, Harold Stewart 2, Juan Burnham 3, Earle Fuller 4, Maisie Johnston 5. Mr W. E. Thomas, of Te Arakura, offered a special prize of 10s 6d for the above calves as yearlings in 1935. AWAHURI. Mr J. O’Donnell also officiated at Awahuri, the results being as follow: Dairy type. —Dorothy Goodman’s Rita. 1, Joyce Goodman’s Princess Marina 2, Edmund Woodruff-e’s Myrtle 3, Allan Goodman’s Duchess 4, Alan Salt’s Bonny 5. Care and attention. —Doreen Woodruffe’s Violet 1, Dorothy Goodman 2, Edmund Woodruffe 3, Allan Goodman 4, Joyce Goodman 5. A special class for yearling heifers, judged on dairy type, was also exhibited, the awards being as under: — Merle Campbell’s Tui 1, Alan Salt’s Tulip 2, Dulcie Campbell’s Doll 3. At the Awahuri School the judge complimented the children on the splendid manner in which they Had presented their calves, stating that it would have been difficult to have found a finer line of calves anywhere.
