RONGOTEA
(From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTKA, Nov. 20. A project to convert one of the unoccupied squares in the centre of Rongotoa into a children’s playing area was revived at the Town Board meeting last night, and there is every prospect of the plan being carried through. With the increasingly fast motor traffic on the roads it is felt that there is a necessity for the provision of a convenient playground, and this site shoudl prove an ideal one. Perhaps there arc public-minded parents and residents who would bo willing to assist the board in providing tho necessary equipment.
Mr G. Aggett, who lias been laid lip for tho past three weeks, is about again. His friends will wish him a speedy recovery. The Rongotca School Committee met last night. All tho members were present: Messrs YV. Amies (chairman), J. Duke, W. Mathcson, A. HilL, E. Croad (secretary) and L. J. Walker (headmaster). Correspondence was received from tho Education Department regarding the attendance of pupils on tho occasion of tho Duke of Gloucester’s expected visit to Palmerston North on January 4. Tho headmaster reported a roll of 93, and the attendance was very satisfactory, there being no sickness among the children. Calf Club: Judging was postponed owing to the air pageant in connection with the reception to Messrs McGregor and Walker falling on the date set. The teaching staff recommend that next winter a fancy dress ball bo held to raise funds for school purposes. The committee did not approve of a ball being held as suggested, and in order to raise money to provide prizes for tho pupils subscription lists arc to bo issued. There will be no school concert this year. Accounts for £8 were passed for payment.
