FROM STABLE AND COURSE.

(By “Binocular.”) Sunec, the winner of the Maiden Plate at Carterton on Saturday, is an Australianbred gelding by Australian Sun from the Earlston mare Bunce. . The WoodviLle District Jockey Club is installing an improved starting-barrier. The work is to be completed for the meeting on December 8 and 10. Perimeter, who won the Taratahi Hack Handicap at Carterton after running an indifferent third in the Maiden Plate, was for a brief period trained at Awapuni. Although she displayed_ great pace on the track, her race record is poor. It was somewhat surprising to find Bold Jim preferred to To Ua in .the betting market for the Carrington Highwcight at Carterton: The Awapuni representative mado a bold bid for the honours but failed. _ A record five furlongs by Gay Blonde in 59 3-ssec formed, a feature of. the training operations at- Takanini yesterday. She was ridden by a lightweight and dashed over the first two furlongs in 22_3-ssec. Hazoor and Revision, two candidates for the honours in the Wairarapa County Cup, both displayed good form at the New Zealand Cup meeting, if in different company. The latter, who scored over the brush hurdles at’Riccarton, showed her appreciation of the drop in poundage by running second to Hazoor on the. flat. Following her racing at Whangarci, Crooning developed soreness and as a result has had to be put aside for a spell. Crooning is a promising sort and in her last four starts has won twice and been fcecond on two occasions. The Lackham filly Brown Betty is reported to be again in work. As a two-year-old she won three races and was three times placed in eight starts. She carries the colours of Mr C. T. ICecble, of Palmerston North. . The locally owned ' but Bulls trained ‘Argument won the Xlautapu .Hack .Handicap at Te , Rapa . on-. Saturday.. The big Acre gelding had scored at the Rangitikei fixture and his - further success was freely anticipated. Sanguine King goes from success to success, and by adding the Bunny Memorial Handicap at Carterton he gave P. Burgess a winning ride. The two local riders, W. Broughton and S. Anderson, have both been associated with Sanguine King on several occasions. Last season the Musketoon colt Mungatoon stood up to a solid season’s racing, his record being three firsts, five seconds, and three thirds in 23 starts. In stake money he won the sum of £670. In registering success in the Cup at Te Rapa on Saturday, he won a stake of close on £3OO and paid a substantial dividend. The Woodville tracks are in splendid order just now, and it is doubtful whether

a better galloping surface could bo found anywhere in the Dominion. On Sunday, D. Moroney arrived with Brambletorn to give the honest old chap’s groggy legs every possible chance in view of the holiday meetings. The Woodville Jockey Club has acquired the Dannevirke Club’s hurdle pads, which will bo used at the meeting on Saturday fortnight. Some nasty injuries are sometimes caused to horses through striking hurdles, and this humane device saves them much suffering, and trainers considerable trouble and anxiety. Major P. Kerr-Smiley’e horses, Persian and Carrickore, arrived at Auckland from Sydney yesterday. They are to compete at the Auckland Racing Club’6 summer meeting at Ellerslie and are under the care of J. Jamieson, junr. Persian is a five-year-old bay horse by Legionnaire or Spelthorne from Pura. His last win was registered in the Rosehill Handicap, one mile and a quarter, at Rosehill on July 25, when he carried 8.12 and scored by two lengths and a ■ half in 2.7. Persian’s last placed performance was to finish second to Shatter in the Squatters’ Handicap at Randwick on October 1, when he carried 8.6 and was beaten by three-parts of a length in 2.7*. Carrickore is a two-year-old chestnut colt by Iliad from Fleeting, hence a half-brother to Inflation. He was purchased at the yearling sales at Trentham last January for 550gns. Carrickore has had only one run, finishing unplaced in the Greytanes Juvenile Stakes at Warwick Farm on October 20.
