BAINESSE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) BAINESSE, Nov. 18. The Bainosse School was filled to capacity on Saturday evening, the occasion being a kitchen evening tendered to Mies Marjorie Tennant and Mr Robin Crystall, who' are to be married shortly. Visitors were present from Palmerston North, Shannon, Opiki, Foxton, and other surrounding districts. Excellent music was proI vidcd by Mr M. Creighton, while extras were played by Misses M. Robertson and J. Raikes (Oroua Downs). Miss Margaret Barron contributed a dance which was heartily applauded. At' a suitable interval Mr M. Ryan testified to tho popularity of the young couple and on behalf of those present wished them prosperity and good luck in their married life. He then called upon Miss Tennant to open the numerous parcels which held an assortment of useful gifts for their future home which will bo at Otaki. Mr Crystall suitably replied and on behalf of Miss Tennant thanked all present for tho many gifts. An excellent supper was provided by the social committee and was in the capable hands of Mesdaines A. C. Buchanan and J. Baker and Mr A. Thessman. The evening came to a close at midnight with tho singing of “Auld Lang Sync.” Mr Ryan acted as M.C. Among those present were: Mesdames D. Tennant, J. Baker, Beard, H. Simmons, A. Simmons, black crepe-de-chine; Simmons, flame georgette. Good progress is being made with the bituminising of tlio main road, and in a very short space of time it will have reached the local school. The old school building which was built by the settlers twenty years ago lias been renovated and converted into a school residence. The many friends’ of Mrs Turner will regret to learn that owing to continued ill-health she has been compelled to give up teaching. Mr D. Young, of Ohakune, is at present relieving teacher. Tho friends of Mr and Mrs A. Thessman will be pleased to learn that their youngest son, Ronald, who entered hospital with rheumatic fever and later had the misfortune to break his leg, is now making a good recovery. Tho friends of Mr M. Blyth will regret to learn that he is very seriously ill in the Palmerston North Hospital. Miss F. Longworth, of Karori, Wellington, spent last week-end as tho guest of Mrs A. C. Buchanan) Miss Nancy Crystall, of Foxton, 6pent the week-end as tho guest of Miss M. Tennant. Mrs M. J. Rayan is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs T. McMahon, of Cronadun, Rcefton. During the week Messrs J. A. Russell, J Smith, E. Lange, and C. Hyde visited tho school to judge the calves in the competition of the Manawatu : Oroua division of the Boys’ and Girls’ Agriculture Clubs. There were six entrants, and great interest was shown by the children in the proceedings. The winners were Care and attention: Patrick Ryan’s Rosie 1, Victor Legg’s Nancy 2, Joy McSa'vney’s Top6y 3. Dairy type: Patrick Ryan 1, Victor Legg 2, Douglas Robertson’s Whiskers 3.
