MAYFAIR PARTIES
GUESTS TO PAY THEIR SHARE,
The Daily Mail, London, states that many Mayfair hostesses, anticipating unprecedented entertaining expenses during the King’s jubilee next year, are consei'ving their resources during the “little season” by the introduction of the “pay-party.” This, at the moment, is the most popular entertainment.
Two or three hostesses invite a select party, each guest paying from one to two guineas towards the cost of the food, drink, and amusements, including a small dance band. In some cases the surolus is given to charity. One of the biggest “pay-parties” ever organised is a fancy-dress affair, to which hundreds are being invited. The organisers include Lady Diana Cooper and Lady Carnarvon.
