USE OF COUNCIL CARS.

Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 6. Discussion on a proposal by Cr. A. E. Armstrong at a meeting ot the City Council last evening that a general public inquiry be held into the council’s administration ’ took an unexpected turn when an allegation that the Mayor’s car had been used improperly. was made. It was subsequently stated that, on the day following the previous meeting of the council, a council car, but not the Mayor’s car, had been used to take Cr. G. T. Thurston from Christchurch to Timaru and back. The motion for an inquiry was seconded by Cr. E. H. Andrews, who said ho thought some kind of inquiry into possible economies would be a good thing. After a discussion,' which was very heated at times, the motion was lost by eight votes to seven.
