A Dannevirke message states that Hon. E. A. Ransom (Alinister of Lands) is making satisfactory progress towards complete recovery from the effects of his recent operation. Dr T. Oliver, D.Sc.. principal emeritus of the Scottish AVoollen Technical College of Galashiels, is visiting Palmerston North for a few days before proceeding to AVanganui. AVith Airs Oliver, ho is the guest of Air and Airs R. Connor, of Frederick Street.
Alessrs AA 7 . B. Tennent and J. C. Young will leave Palmerston North on Thursday to attend the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church at Dunedin. They will represent the congregations of St. Andrew’s and St. David’s Churches respectively aud return on Sunday.
At the annual prize-giving of the Henderson Aletliodist Sunday School a presentation of an illuminated address was made to Air J. G. Platt, a former superintendent of the Sunday school for over 30 years. He was also presented with the Diploma of Honour of the National Sunday School Union, London, awarded for service in Sunday'school work during a period of 65 years.
Mr T. De Renzy Harman celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of his admission to the legal profession in Christchurch on Friday. Mr Harman is one of the oldest members of the profession practising in the city. He was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of New Zealand on November 2, 1884, by Mr Justice Johnston, one of the early Judges in Christchurch.
Rev. J. A. Asher has advised members of St. Paul’s Church, Napier, that it is his intention at an early date to resign the charge of St. Paul’s, which - was entrusted to him some 36 years ago. It will be 44 years this month since Mr Asher was ordained at Gore, and at the present time no other man in the active ministry of the Presbyterian Church can look back to so long a period of active service.
The death occurred suddenly at the Riccarton racecourse, yesterday, of Dr Frederick Goulbourn Gibson, aged 63. a well-known medical man and a prominent sportsman of Christchurch. He expired outside the weighing-in room. Dr Gibson, who had been in poor health and yesterday was having'liis first outing for some time, was in his prime a man of splendid physique, who was highly esteemed for his kindly nature and generous disposition. During the war he was a member of the medical staff of the Hospital Ship Maheno on its third charter.
