WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.

YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES.

A substantial turnover of Government 4 per cent, stocks was the principal fea™re. of „ the business on the Wellington stoclc Exchange yesterday, all maturities being dealt in at firm -rates. Active lading in shares was also recorded, the maikets generally showing considerable strength and buoyancy. Keen interest oweloped in bank issues. New South Wales sold firmly at £32, cum the final quarterly dividend to be announced this month. Union of Australia were slightly easier, a. sale made late on Saturday at £9 5s 6d being reported and buyers staying in at £9 4s. National of New Zealand firmed to 71s, but sellers showed no interest. In the financial section- New Zealand Guarantee Corporations were actively traded at 5s sd. Insurance shares wore slightly easier, South British being bid for at 88s, New Zealand at 68s, National at 21s 6d and A.P.A.’s at 10s 3d. New Zealand Refrigerating paid were firm at I9s lid, sellers 20s 3d, and buyers were offering 72s 6d for Southland Meat. Mosgiel Woollen advanced to £ll cum dividend and Wellington ordinaries wore firm at £5 11s 6d. Kaiapoi were a shade better at 14s lid for the 17s paid and 4s 8d for the contributing. Brewery shares were a firm market. Tui advanced to 60s without drawing sellers. Queensland were traded at 28s 7jd and 28s 9d. Now Zealand were steady at 49s 9d, sellers Is higher, and Staples were sought at 30s 6d. Industrial and trading issues were mostly firm. Sales reported as made late oil Saturday included British Tobacco at 41s 9d, Consolidated Brick at 11s, and Dunlop Perdriau slightly easier at 19s Bd. There was a fairly good inquiry for mining shares.
