SYDNEY WOOL SALES.

ADVANCE MAINTAINED. SYDNEY, Nov. 5. At the -wool sales to-day' 10,451 bales were offered, which 9653 were sold at auction, aUo 1351 bales were sold privately. There was strong competition from all sections, with a particularly keen demand from Yorkshire. All the best features of last weok were reproduced, values being fully maintained. Greasy Merino made 17id for seven bales from Barraba.

The average price of the wool sold at Sydney auctions last week was £l3 4s lOd a bale, or 10.2 d a lb..

HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT

Tire Department of Agriculture lias received the following cablegram, dated November 3, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: Tallow.—Market continues quiet. Values nominally unchanged. Hemp.—Manila market quiet but steady and about unchanged. Sisal market firm, with more interest shown. October December shipment sold up to £l3 15s and De-cember-February shipment £l4 2s 6d. New Zealand: Nothing to report. Eggs,—Market quiet but firm. English national pack, 17s 6d to 235; ordinaly pack, 18s to 20s. Danish, 14s 6d to 18sAustralian, 11s 6d to 13s. , Peas.—Maples market quiet. A grade Tasmania afloat sold at from 45s to 465; New Zealand, 42s 6d. Blues: Market dull. No inquiry for colonial; nominal value is £9 10s.

HEMP AND TOW

DECREASED GRADINGS IN OCTOBER.

Gradings of hemp and tow last month showed a decrease, compared with those for October, 1933. The figures were as follow: — „ , _ , Bales Bales Bales

Of the hemp graded last month, eight bales were classed as good fair, 559 bales ae high fair, 281 bales as low fair, and 413 bales as common; 131 bales being rejected and 12 bales condemned. Of the total, 771 bales were graded at "Wellington, 431 at Bluff, and 202 at Auckland. Of the tow graded last month, 240 bales were classed as first grade, 63 as second grade, and 35 as third grade, two bales being condemned. Of the total, 259 bales were graded at Wellington, 6b at Bluff, and 15 at Auckland.
