UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE.

WINNER RUNS IN MAIDEN RACE.

The unusual happening of a horse contesting a race for which he was ineligible occurred at Avondale on Saturday when Tutor was a runner in the Maiden Plate. The race was for horses that had not won an advertised flat race of any description at tho time of starting, and Tutor’s win in the Nursery Handicap at Masterton last season rendered him ineligible. Tutor, a three-year-old getding by Chief Euler from Gruciosa, was purchased at the sale of the late Mr V. lliddiford's horses at Trentham last January for 150 guineas by Mr W. Scholium, of Auckland, who was under the impression that he was a maiden.
