FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
MUTTON IN BETTER DEMAND. LAMB MARKET DULL. The lamb market remains dull with heavy-weights easier. Mutton market: Wethers and owes meeting with slightly better demand. Beef market: Good demand with prices unchanged. Now Zealand porker pigs: Heavier arrivals have cased prices. New Zealand baconcr pigs: Nominal.
The above report was received on Saturday by the Meat Board from its London office, which advises that the following are the approximate average prices realised for the week ended November 2, based on actual transactions of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of meat mentioned, arid are for representative parcels of the goods offering during the week, being for business done on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market and/or ex London stores. Prices for the two previous woeks arc also shown:—
New Zealand sheep.—Canterbury and North Island selected crossbred wethers and maiden ewes: 481 b to 561 b, 4jd (4jjd, 4|d) ; 571 bto 641 b, 4§d (same); 651 bto mb, 4id (4|d, 4sd). The market is quiet, says a report received by Levin and Co., Ltd., from their London agents. Compared with the previous week’s quotations, lamb is unchanged; wethers, 641 b to 721 b, (,d per lb lower; ewes, 561 b to 641 b, gd per lb lewer; others unchanged. Smithfield ‘‘delivered” prices are quoted as follow: —North Island Down lambs: 281 b to 361 b. 73d per lb; 361 bto 421 b, 6|d. Best North Island crossbred lambs: 281 bto 361 b, 6ld; 361 bto 421 b, bid. North Island, second quality lambs, average 301 b to 311 b, 6fd. MARKING OF MEAT
A cablo from London was published recently stating that the United Kingdom Government has postponed till February 28 next the operation of tho order which provides that imported meat, shall bo marked with the name of the country of origin. The Meat Board explains that this postponement applies only to lamb and mutton which arrives in the United Kingdom unbranded before January 7, and was made as the result of the board’s representations to . cover old _ season’s carry-over st-eks. All meat arriving on and after January 7 must be branded in accordance with the provisions of tho marking order.
NORTH CANTERBURY CO-OP, FREEZING CO.
Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 3.
The operations of the North Canterbury Sheep Farmers’ Co-operative Freezing, Export and Agency Company show a net profit for tho year ending September 30 of £7875, compared with £7856 for last year. No dividend is recommended. The directors propose that £3590 be appropriated for depreciation on works and plant, leaving £4284 to be transferred to the appropriation account.
