GAINS BY LABOUR,

In the municipal elections in England and Wales not all the results of polling have yet been declared, but the position this morning showed that Labour lias retained its majorities in town councils already under its control arid gained the majority in many others. A Press Association cable says the position of the gains and losses in London is as follows:

Lansbury said the results prove that municipal Socialism is getting a firm hold of the people. “It is certain that the longer the Government remains in office the greater will be the smashing victory.” A feature of the London poll is the complete rout of Communist candidates. Further returns increase the Socialists’ sweeping victory in the elections. They now control ten London boroughs out of 28.
