AEROPLANE OVERTURNS.
LANDING ON RIVER-BED. NO ONE~INJURED. Per Press Associaion. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 3. Forced to land on a narrow patch of shingle on the east bank of the Bealey River while flying from Hokitika to Christchurch late yesterday afternoon, Mr A. H. Nancekivell, of the West Coast Airways, overturned his Spartan machine through striking a boulder and smashed both wings and badly damaged the undercarriage. Neither the passenger, Mr A. B. Behan, junr., nor the pilot was hurt. The trip was uneventful until passing over Rolleston Range, where the throttle control worked loose and the machine lost height. Mr Nancekivell was within gliding distance of the river-bed and managed to bring the machine down. It struck a boulder and turned completely over. Mr Nancekivell and Mr Behan were able to crawl out of the cockpits. The machine will probably have to be dismantled and brought to Christchurch for rebuilding.
