WOODVILLE, Nov. 2. A rinks tourney was conducted by members of the Woodville Bowling Club on Wednesday afternoon. The weather was fine and the green was in perfect order. Eight rinks participated, the winners being E. Gotliard, Jamieson, Young, Forbes (skip), with three wins and no losses. Details are as follow: —First round: Oifwood, Davidson, Norman, Horne (skip) 7v. Kenyon, J. Morgan, Cotter, Curry (skip) 9; Walker, Nelson, Grinlinton, McCormack (skip) 10 v. J. Grinlinton, Hawkes, R. H. Morgan, Bly (skip) 11; Duke, K. Gotliard, James, Dr. Males (skip) 5 v. Johnston, Galbraith, Henderson, Nicholas (skip) 19; E. Gothard, Jamieson, Young, Forbes (skip) 10 v. Evans, Funke, McLachlan, Aim (skip) 7. Second round: Curry 7v. Aim 9; Forbes 15 v. Nicholas 12; Mules 11 v. Bly 6; Horne 8 v. McCormack 9. Third round : Forbes 15 v. Curry 6; Mules 7 v. Aim 10; McCormack 9 v. Nicholas 11 ; Bly 10 v. Horne 9. Aggregate: Forbes, 3 wins, 0 losses; Bly, Nicholas, Aim, 2 wins, 1 loss; Curry, Mules, McCormack, 1 win, 2 losses; Horne, 0 wins, 3 losses. I The first matches in the mid-week I :ricket series were completed on Wednesday. Woodville met Ruahine (Dannevirke) at Woodville, gaining the victory by a margin of 58 runs. On the
first day’s play Woodville compiled 61 in their first innings and 103 in the second. Ruahine’s first innings yielded 62 and in -the second they had lost four wickets for 12 runs.. The weather was fine and the wicket in good order for the resumption. Ruahine were unable to make much headway against the bowling of P. and J. Burlace and Simpson, and the innings closed at 44. P. Burlace bowled eight overs for the excellent average of 5 wickets for 17 runs. Mr T. H. Williams presided at a meeting of the Woodville and District R.S.A. committee. It was decided to procure 500 poppies from Auckland. A letter wats received from the Palmerston North R.S.A. challenging the Woodville R.S.A. to play bowls. The matter was left in the hands of the secretary. Mr W. H. Nelson donated two rests and brackets for the billiard tables and it was resolved to send him , a letter of thanks. Matters concerning the Armistice Day celebrations , were considered and arranged for. ( Mr and Mrs J. G. Tennent and their two young daughters have taken ■ up their residence at the Public J Works switching station, Woodlands - Road. Mr Tennent, who was former- ' ly stationed at Waikaremoana, will j take up the position of operator at the j AVoodville station.
