In the New Zealand Cup race Steeton, tlio winner, led out, and passed the stand ten lengths clear of Some Shamble, Great Star and Red Manfred. Then came Polydora a.nd Nightform. Steeton continned to hold a big lead and at the seven furlongs post was several lengths ahead or Some Shamble, Great Star and The Smuggler. These were followed by Red Manfred, Gold Trail and Polydora. Hazoor made a forward move at this stage and, turning for home, Gold Trail ran into second place. Steeton was never headed and beat Gold Trail comfortably. Might was third and Hazoor fourth. Steeton was ridden by W. H. Jones, Gold Trail by Marsh, and Might by L. H. Jones. Tire time was 3.25 2-5.
