RANGIOTU.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) RANGIOTU, Nov. 1. At the monthly meeting of the School Committee, held on Monday evening, Mr J. A. Shaw presided, there being present Messrs D. G. Moore, R. Carkcek, J. Duncan, E. Russell (secretary j, and Miss Thompson (headmistress). Miss Thompson reported that the average attendance for the month had been 60, out of a total roll number of 66. Mr Merrington < (inspector) visited the school last Tuesday and was very pleased with the standard of the school work. The school desks required attention and it was recommended that they be painted. The committee resolved that the work of painting the desks be undertaken as soon as possible. Accounts wore passed for payment. A circular was received from the Education Board instructing that, in view of the Duke of Gloucester’s visit to Palmerston North on January 4, it would be necessary to submit at a nearly date the number of children likely to attend the welcome and celebrations that day. The question of transport arose, owing to the fact that no tram facilities would be provided on the F° x * ton lino for the free transit of the children to the city. It was resolved to write to the Foxton School Committee in order to find out their views on the matter. A further resolution passed was _ that the _ annual school picnic be held in conjunction Willi the proposed combined Tennis Club and Hall Society gala day in February. the chairman stated that in past years the school picnic had been held on the boxton Beach, but a new and novel departure would bo taken next year by holding trie event in conjunction with the gala, day, and he felt confident that the children and all concorncd would thoroughly enjoy themselves, and that the event would bo a most successful one. Following the School Committeo meeting, a combined meeting with representatives of the Hall Society and Tennis Club was held in the public hall Mr R E. Dixon presided. Mr Shaw, chairman of the School Committee, reported that his committee had decided to combine with them in their proposed gala day. It was resolved that the gala clay bo held on February 22. Other resolutions were: (1) That the children s sports and other general events be held on the footba 1 grounds- (2) that the main function be centralised in the hall; (3) that a grand social and dance be held during the ovenine- The programme for the day s events wfs fully discussed, it being a comprehensive one.
