The two Wimbledon tennis champions, Perry and Miss Dorothy Round, are at the head oi the British team which arrived by the Mariposa to-day en route to Melbourne. Tho captain and manager is G. P. Hughes and the other members are Misses M. Dearman and N. Lyle. In addition, R. Menzel, champion of Czechoslovakia, and V. G. Kirby, champion of South Africa, are travelling. Hughes said it was the view in England that it was better to have separate singles and doubles players for Davis Cup play. Australia made the mistake of playing Crawford in both the singles and the doubles, and the strain was too great.
Hughes said Stedman and Alnlfroy, tlie New Zealanders, hail recently won the international doubles tourney in Italy. Rotli had settled down in England and had a business appointment there. The English team will play in Auckland on Saturday and Alonday. Alenzcl and Kirby will go on to-night to Australia.
