Rev. P. Wiltshire and Mrs Wiltshire, of Pongaroa, are the guests oi : Mr and Mrs J. Crollj of Arolia Street, during their visit to Palmerston North.

The friends of Miss Beryl Oakley will be pleased to learn that she has recovered from her recent indisposition. Miss G. Robinson, Wellington, is visiting Mrs R. 11 ■ Rhodes, \\ oodvjlle.

The engagement is announced of Alice Winifred, second daughter of Mr and Mrs I. Marshall, Stanway, to Douglas Stendahl, elder son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Bowater, Colyton. In the account of the Whakarongo Institute’s drama circle entertainment, held on Friday, Oct. 26th, Miss T. Newcombe’s name was inadvertently omitted from the list of those taking part in the play, entitled “Tea Time Tempest.” SOCIAL FUNCTIONS. A pleasant afternoon was spent yesterday, when Miss Clarke entertained a few of her friends at bridge. Afternoon tea was served in the beautiful surroundings of her home. Among her friends present were: Miss Knight, of Eltham; Misses Edwards, of Wanganui, and Misses Glastonbury and Bruce, of Palmerston North. Miss Clarke recently arrived from England. BERYL OAKLEY BALL. There was a splendid attendance at the Beryl Oakley Ball in the P.D.C. “Jade” ballroom last evening to further the candidacy of Miss Oakley in the Bands’ Queen Carnival. A spirit of gaiety predominated, and a thoroughly enjoyable time was spent. 'Pile Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs A. E. Mansford), Mr and Mrs F. J. Oakley and Miss Oakley were among those present. Interspersing the which were ably controlled by Mr B. Davidson, were keenly appreciated pianoforte items by Mr Ivan Perrin and tap dances by Mr M. Mcßrearty. Mr J. B. Smillie contributed music for extra dances.

As ii result of the function, which was controlled by a large committee, the candidature of Miss Oakley will be substantially assisted.
