ORGANISATION SUGGESTED. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 1. Support for a scheme under which the Government Tourist Department would become a commercial organisation and cease to function as a department of State was sought from the conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce in an address by Mr H. H. Sterling, chairman of the Railways Board. Mr Sterling said he preferred to refer to the tourist and travel undertaking rather that tourist traffic and he suggested that the possibilities of expansion and improvement were tremendous. At present Giere was no such thing as organisation in the tourist industry, and this organisation was essential. In this organisation it would be es-

sential that an integral part, working in harmony with th© other section, should he the present Government Tourist Department and its adjuncts. He would suggest that th© industry should be controlled by a board of directors, as in all private business. If the Tourist Department wer© made a commercial organisation apart from a department of State it might have good results ,as had come from putting the railways under commercial control. The subject -will be discussed by the conference to-morrow.
