TRAVEL BY AIR.
FACTORS FOR CONSIDERATION,
(British Official Wireless.) Received November 2, 11.40 a.m. RUGBY, Nov. 1
The Under-Secretary for Air (Sir Philip Sassoon), in reply to questions in the House of Commons, stated that phoposals for curtailing the times taken by the existing Empire air services had been under consideration for several months. He could not make a statement at present. Factors in commercial air transport and other considerations such as safety, reliability, regularity, and comfort had to be taken into account. As an instance he cited the London-Pans route where, despite the fact that a foreign line had been re-equipped with faster machines, Imperial Airways had carried three times the passengers in the past three months. Compared with the same period last year, Imperial Airways’ passengers on that route had increased while those of the foreign line had decreased by nearly 30 per cent.
