THE BUTTER GLUT.

AN ENGLISH RETAIL VIEW. ARTIFICIALITY OF PRICES. Received October 31, 11.25 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 30. Mr Maggs, chairman of United Dairies, Ltd., speaking a.t a meeting, said that in many great dairying countries in Europe and in some of our Dominions the price of butter was artificially maintained at 100 to 300 per cent, above the price obtained for export butter. If these countries allowed their own nationals to buy butter at the world price it was apparent that the glut would soon disappear and the world price would rise with greater benefit to the producer than was obtained by the existing method of artificial high prices.
