EPIGRAM GOES VERY WELL. MELBOURNE, Oct. 30. It was decided to-day that A. Knox is to ride Journal and R. Bailey Verberry in the Melbourne Cup. Tho New Zealand-bred acceptors for the Maribyrnong Plat© are Golden Promise, Lady Primrose, and Homer. Flemington soratchings for all engagements are Radiant Star and Great Legend. Conditions were ideal for galloping at Caulfield this morning. On the grass, Epigram (New Zealand) went exceptionally well, beating Closing Time by three lengths and doing the best six furlongs in 1.161. Nightly (New Zealand) went half a mile in 51sec. He is slightly lame t but it is not regarded as serious. Silver Ring (New Zealand) went the best seven furlongs in 1.30. At Flemington on the course proper, Peter Pan beat Broad Arrow over nine furlongs in 1.59. Limbolim (New Zealand) beat Gay King over six furlongs in 1.19. Journal beat lolaus and Sarclierie over nine furlongs in 2.6.
