SPRING SHOW

FIXTURE OPENS TO-MORROW.

PROGRAMME OF EVENTS.

f Following a period of very active i preparations, the final touches were ; being applied at the Manawatu and ; West Coast A. and P. Association’s halls, to-day, to stands and exhibits , at the 49th Spring Show and industrial exhibition, which opens to-morrow and ; will extend over three days, ooncludf ing on Friday night. Stewards were I' busy to-day benching and arranging I displays in readiness for judging, tj; Showing commendable enterprise, I the general committee with the chairjj man, Mr D. Collis, at its head, and f the managing-secretary (Mr H. E. | Kissling) have made arrangements for : some novel attractions, and the exhibiI tion will have some features not |i hitherto associated with it. Some of f these have been arranged at consideri able expense. Apart from the competitive classes, there are numerous attracin the industrial halls, where space is fully occupied. The Motor Olympia, finished beautifully in surroundings of royal blue, will provide a great surprise for patrons, as its artistic arrangement and uniformity are undoubtedly a revelation.

Tiii-hare racing in the oval will be an entirely new feature while the exhibition of foil and sabre fighting by pupils of the London School of Arms, to be presented in the stadium, is being awaited with great interest. Other attractions include steeririding, boxing and wrestling, sheep shearing and ring events. More effort and initiative have been put forward in arranging this Spring Show than ever before. General arrangements and facilities at the grounds have been vastly improved, and the only elements now wanted to ensure the complete success of the fixture are fine weather and adequate public patronage. The latter should not be lacking in view of the attractions being provided. For the convenience of stock exhibitors, and in order that his services may be easily accessible to them, the .man-aging-secretary has arranged to instal himself in a field office out on the grounds. This new departure will be readily appreciated by those who have occasion for communicating quickly with the secretary on matters requiring attention in the stock pavilions and at the judging rings.
