PAHIATUA.

PAHIATUA, Oct. 29.

In the past week anniversary celebrations have been held by the Pahiatua Methodist Sunday School. On Sunday appropriate services were conducted by Rev. C. M. Roberts and Rev. R. E. Patched. A special feature of both services was the singing of a children’s choir of some fifty voices under the baton of Mr J. J. Boagey. On Wednesday evening last, the Sunday school scholars staged an entertaining concert programme to an appreciative audience. The distribution of prizes by Rev. C. M. Roberts followed, and a pleasant evening terminated with supper. At the recent examinations held in Masterton before Mr Anderson Tyrcr, examiner for Trinity College of Music, London, the following pupils were successful: —Senior grade: Phyllis Lawson (honours). Junior grade: Yvonne M. Matthews (pass); Harvene I. Davidson (pass). Preparatory grade: Elizabeth Webb (honours); Dorothy B. Bick (honours). All these who entered passed. Mrs F. G. Thompson, of Lower Hutt, is the guest of Mrs W. D. Taylor, “Mironui,” Mangatainoka. Miss V. Stratford, of Waipukurau, is staying with her sister, Mrs A. Geange, Tararua Street. Mrs J. Stewart, of Makuri, who is an inmate of a private hospital where she underwent a serious operation, is now making an excellent recovery.
