SUITABLE ACKNOAVLEDGMENT.
The appreciation of the public and business people of Eeilding was conveyed to Mr C. Clark, postmaster, who left to-day for AA'haugarei, on his unfailing courtesy and attention, by the president (Mr J. G. Eliott) at the Feilding Chamber of Commerce meeting last night. Mr. Eliott said Mr Clark would carry with him to AVhangarei. the best wishes and congratulations of his many friends in Eeilding who, while glad to hear of liis promotion, would regret he was leaving tlie town.
The Mayor (Mr C. E. Taylor) said he was pßased to endorse the remarks of the president; in Mr Clark Eeilding had had a postmaster of exceptional ability and courtesy. Mr Clark had not been long in Feilding before he found himself involved in a great deal of extra work as the result of unemployment relief, and instead of his labours becoming lighter as the work progressed they became steadily heavier, and oventuallv resulted in his being made j certifying officer and having to control unemployment relief almost on ins own. Through all this he had maintained his usual courtesy and attention to all bis other duties, and it had g \en Mr Taylor a great deal of pleasure to see that the Relief AAYirkers’ Association of Feilding had officially recognised Mr Clark’s efforts on their behalf m a special farewell. Continuing, Mr Taylor referred to the loss the Feilding Post Office bad suffered in the transfer of Mr A. C. Clifford and the impending departure of Mr AV I>. P. Norris in addition to Mr Clark and thought it very uninrtunate for the town that three of the most capable officers in tile local office should all have received well-earned promotion at practically the same time. Mr Taylor joined with the chamber in wishing Mr Clark every success in the future, a.nd the hope that he would climb still further on the official ladlteplying, Mr Clark thanked the chamber for the kindly references to his work and stated that of ffil the offices tie had yet been posted nan enjoyed his work and stay at . eiurng the best. He acknowledged the assistance he had received from his staff, particularly Messrs Clifford and '•orris, who had justly received promotion. AVith Mrs Clark, the speaker was sorry to leave Feilding and would always be interested in it.
