GANDHI AND CONGRESS.

HIS PRESENT ATTITUDE. BOMBAY, Oct. 27. Two thousand people cheered Mahatma Gandhi on his arrival for the opening of the Congress Committee and attempted to persuade him to continue active association, but he refused, saying that the Congressmen were overpoivered by a sense of defeatism. If they succeeded in restoring faith in passive resistance he would rejoin the ranks.
