WITNESS THANKED.
HELP FOR DETECTIVE
AUCKLAND, Oct. 28.
A special compliment was paid in. the Auckland Supreme Court to Mr J. R. Jurie, the young civilian who rendered valuable assistance to a detective when the latter had to arrest on a roof-top a man who menaced him with a revolver. In finding the man guilty of attempting to discharge a revolver at the detective, the jury added a rider asking the presiding Judge, Mr Justice Herdman, to express appreciation of the courageous assistance given the police by the witness Mr June. “I shall be very glad to do that,” said His Honour. “He displayed very great courage and deserves to be complimented.” A little later Mr Jurie was called before His Honour. “I am requested by the jury,” said His Honour, “to express their appreciation of the valuable assistance which you gave to the police in connection with this matter. I would like to express my own appreciation. I think you behaved in a very courageous way, and were of great assistance to the police officer. I thank you.”
