(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Oct. 26.
The question of obtaining inor# support for . the nightwatchman xva» discussed at the monthly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce. Mr D. Christie consiclered that it was due to the fact that Foxlon had a nightwatchman that burglaries were so infrequent in the town. It was decided to canvass the business people. The acting postmaster (Mr F. C. Brady) reported that at the request of the chamber lie had been able to rearrange the beach mail service. The contractor had offered to carry two additional mails daily free of charge and as a result a letter posted at the Beach at 1.30 p.m. could be delivered in Auckland or Christchurch the next morning. Mr Alsop expressed the gratitude of beach residents at the improved service and the acting postmaster
was thanked for his assistance. It was decided to write to the Borough Council, congratulating it on the manner in which it had brightened up the town by attending to reserves, fences and public buildings. Mr A. Alsop stressed the necessity for some improvement being effected to the Foxton Beach subsidiary highway. It was in a particularly bad state, he said, and acting to the detriment of the resort. He suggested also the construction of a cycle brack to the beach. The Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau) endorsed Mr Alsop’s remarks. It was decided that a deputation wait on the next meeting of the Manawatu County Council relative to the matter.
