CHRYSANTHEMUM CLUB
INTEREST OF JUVENILE MEMBERS.
Much enthusiasm prevails among tlie juvenile members of tho Palmerston North Chrysanthemum Club and at a meeting held on Saturday a.nd presided over by Mr J. Adamson indications were evident that this season members will be taking a prominent part in club activities.
In an address to the meeting, Mr H. L. Hartog said it gave him pleasure to see so many present who felt an interest in gardening. To be successful gardeners, he contended, they would need to put their hearts and souls into their work, but would be amply compensated by the pleasure and interest they would derive. He spoke on a visit t.o a meeting of the Wanganui Club. An invitation to the November meeting of the Palmerston North Garden and Flower Circle was extended to juniors and their parents by Mr Hartog, since he said he felt the meeting would be of particular interest, because the combating of chrysanthemum pests would bo dealt with in the lecture. ~ , Mr C. J. Erenstrom said it always gave him pleasure to come in contact with other people interested in gardening. Growing chrysanthemums, they would find, would be the beginning of a widening interest in all gardening generally. . . .......... A competition is to be finalised between the Wanganui and Palmerston North junior clubs, whereby the best six chrysanthemums grown by Palmerston North juniors will be matched against the best six grown by Wanganui enthusiasts. A number of new members were enrolled and those present were notified that” plants would he distributed this week. They were, therefore, advised to have their beds prepared.
