MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

Before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday, Hori Tauhopa aged 27, appeared on a charge that, on October 25, at Shannon, lie did commit the theft of £23 10s 6d, the property of Messrs Simpson and King. Accused pleaded guilty. SeniorSergeant Whitehouse said accused ,came into possession of a cheque made ’out to Messrs Simpson and King, stating that he had found it. He went to Levin and made purchases, spending the day there. Some £lB 16s Id of the money had been recovered. Accused was a married man with three young children. There was no possible chance of restitution as he was unemployed. Commenting that he would give accused a chance, and warning him not to,get into any further trouble, the Magistrate admitted accused to probation for twelve months.
