ON FINAL STAGE
WALKER AND Me GREGOR
DELAYED EN ROUTE TO CLONCURRY
Maintaining their splendid position in the handicap section of the Centenary air race, the Manawatu entrants, Squadron-Leader M. C. McGregor and Mr H. C. Walker, according to the latest advice received from Sydney, are safe on their journey in the Northern Territory and are now flying to 'Cloncurry, 514 miles from Newcastle Waters, the latter being their first scheduled stop after leaving Darwin.
The airmen were reported to have landed at Brunette Downs at 5 o’clock last evening, but there was uncertainty concerning their departure, and the closing of telegraph and wireless stations until this morning preventing- the transmission of information had caused some apprehension regarding their safety, as it was stated in a Charleville message that bad weather was being experienced over the Northern Territory around Brunette Downs, and a mail aeroplane, after meeting the Palmerstonians there, had to make a forced landing at Avon Downs, to the south-west of Brunette Downs, on its journey south, 4 owing to unfavourable conditions.
When the first edition of the “Standard” went to press McGregor and Walker had pass ed Camooweal on route to Cloncurry.
